BRAINCRACKING: Feminist & Fetish Model, Can I be Both?

FEATURED PHOTO’S BY CARMINEWORX

If you follow me for a while now, it will not be too surprising when I tell you that I’m pretty open-minded. I am open about sex, mental health and stuff like that, because I think they’re very important topics to talk about. The fact that society deems it to be taboo, is not going to make me hold my breath.

– trigger warning-
In this post I’m talking openly about gender, sex and fetishes.
If you are uncomfortable with either of those subjects, I’d recommend you to click away.

FEMINIST & FETISHMODEL, CAN I BE BOTH?

I’m an alternative model, and I also do fetishwork on the regular. Some of my photos are rather sexual, and I really don’t mind, I actually find it quite empowering. And since I’m an adult, it really is nobody’s business #yesimtalkingtoyoubitch.

I consider myself to be a feminist. I believe everybody should be treated equally, regardless of gender, in every aspect of life. But that’s not the case yet. I was reached out to by an acquaintance, she was concerned by the way I “objectify” myself, and why I was contradicting my feminism. She thought turning myself into a sex object to please men was a shame and she was “sorry to see I had so little self-respect”. Well I don’t think she really understands the concept of feminism.

You see, feminism supports female autonomy, meaning that we should be able to have freedom and independence in every choice we make. So I don’t really understand her concern. I can show as much of my body as I please. I can sexualize myself, and you can’t. Because it’s my body and not yours.

The idea that the only reason a feminine person shows their body is to please men, is so untrue, and harmful. It might be a shock to hear this, but not every woman is created to serve the penispeople. We have our own narrative, we’re not just a supportive character to every man’s leading role. We often make choices which are made without a man’s needs in mind.

I believe I should be able to sexualize myself, if I want to. Someone else can’t sexualize me, if I don’t want to. It’s actually quite simple. Because I’m in charge of my own body, my own life. Sexuality and open-ness is just a way of expressing myself. The thing is, I should be allowed to make the choice myself. You can choose to wear a turtleneck and a maxi skirt on a picture. Or you can wear a bondage harness and nipple tassels. Neither decisions make you “worse” or “better” of a person. But judging a woman for making a choice that doesn’t match with your personal ideals, thats restricting someone from their freedom.

So Helen, sweetie, I know you were just trying to protect me from all the evil men in the world, as I was so naively throwing myself into their devious claws. But I’m afraid that while you were being so anxious of me straying away from my strong feminist ideals, you lost yourself in a world of misogyny and judgment, thus contradicting yourself a bit.
